I can't really tell much from that picture. Any way you can get him to flare and take a picture? Put a mirror beside him and wait until he spreads his fins right out. It will show the area better.

thanks for derailing the thread guys but the original question never has been answered. whats wrong with the betta pictured above?

not the best way to get help around here .. when your asking for help a little sugar goes a long way ... but complaining and being rude never helps

on another note .. looks like normal coloration to me but what do i know

Does the black area protrude from the fin or is it just the color on the fin? If it is a protrusion it may be a problem.
