Tank is 36"x18"x18", basking is about 130 and the UVB is a 2.0, and I don't have panacur but I was able to get a reptile anti-parasite meal with metronidazole, should I put some of that on his food? He has no problem feeding, he just doesn't keep it down.
Uvb(whatever brand it is) isn't enough. The only brand of flourescents you should get are repti suns and I would get the 10.0 series. Is he having problems digesting all food or just insects? If it's all foods(which might be all insects at his size) then it very well might be the uvb bulb.
monitors are said to not require uvb lights so i thought a 2.0 (the repti-glo, exo terra brand one) would be enough, should i get a 5.0 or 10.0? I'm not 100% sure but i did force feed some soft monitor food (similar to soft cat or dog food) and he seem to digest it but I'm not quite sure because the substrate stuck to it. I'll try feeding just a single smaller cricket and see what happens
I don't think monitor food is the best stuff for them. Get him the real stuff like ground trukey, beef hearts, etc. The repti glo series is utter crap and I have also heard that monitors don't need uvb from some places... Im not a monitor expert so I can't say 100% on that but I would get the repti sun10.0 bulb. IMO it would help.
I'll switch out the UVB For something better and see of it helps, I was giving him the monitor food, it's basicly ground chicken with vitamins because it is easy on his stomach and because it is moist.
I would take your sav to a experienced exotic vet, if he consistently regurgitates food with otherwise perfect conditions then something wrong is going on with its digestive sistem. Many things could be the cause, from parasites to undigestable things he may have eaten. What you are experiencing its NOT normal, a sav that size should be more then able to eat grown crikets. Didnt you told us that when he arrived he was thin? He is a import baby, he is probably full of worms. And that is one of the reasons you shouldnt brough a animal without seeing it, savs are comon, there is no need to buy one online, now you have your hands full. Actually you should have gotten one from a rescue then buying one, kingsnake allways have them. But that doesant matters now, what does matter is that you have to get that fixed asap. Lets hope its not a gastroenteritis which is comon in lizards with a compromised imune sistem and is frequently letal. DONT selfmedicate, the vet is the only one that can make a apropriate prognosis and dosaje.
i got him cause the supplier list said cbb. obviously he's not. It is digesting the monitor food, i think it is the size of the crickets. Anyway, its going to the vet tomorrow
and savs may be common where you live, but where i do, only beardies, leo's, and corns are common. I was lucky to even have a chance to get a sav, i knew full well vet bills would most likely come up and i'll deal with what i need to to get it healthy
Its ok, I'd like to know to so I can get the best thing him. And I think the problem may have been the size of the crickets, he digested the soft monitor food fine, he's still going to the vet tomorrow just in case.
