Coincidently I've recently been reading up on the use of salt with freshwater fish and have also come to the conclusion that it's best avoided in most instances. Potentially could cause additional stress to fish that are already stressed by disease, rather than actually do anything to help them recover. Especially fish that have evolved to live in a completely salt free environment. Better to focus on good water quality and, once a disease is positively identified, medication designed to treat it specifically.
 
yup and soft water fish live in salt free enviornments.. also once you add salt it stays in your water. H20 evaporates but the salt molecules dont
