Not happy with my filtration, options?

Everytime I used bottle bacteria, I never do a water change. I alway think that I am dumping it out when I change the water. Yea, I used to use the Bio Spira and it cycled in like 10 days. I never changed the water.

Can we make post #10 (jschall's post) A sticky ? Everyone with a new tank and tons of questions needs to follow those steps.
