Not meant to keep a jardini sad day....

I like how there's all these "experts" on here lol.

Not experts just very experienced people who have owned All the fish you mentioned such as RTC and jardini successfully and for quite some time however not together lol. People learn from things like this that happened to you that's what makes them experienced. They actually learn from mistakes which makes you experienced. You have supposedly been told never trust a catfish yet you did and you trusted an RTC which is the most out of all catfish you don't want to trust.obviously you didn't learn from that saying so you didn't gain any experience until now when the switch clicked in your mind that something was wrong with keeping an RTC with a smaller jardini. One day you to will be a quote unquote expert because of all the trial and error you are facing now. Don't post a thread about keeping an RTC with a cigar shaped fish such as a jardini feeling defeated and that you thought nothing could ever happen with a SMALL jardini RTC combo and expect not to get something said to you. To most people it's common sense not to trust a catfish and not to keep any smaller fish with an RTC and to live by that saying never trust a catfish because it's true. You just found out it was true for yourself. but for those like yourself who may not have experienced things like this it may seem like a totally fine thing to keep an RTC with a cigar shaped fish that is smaller! Sorry man but that's just how it goes man nobody is claiming to be an expert they are just sharing experiences and may be acting a little ignorant to you because it's common sense to them not to keep an RTC with a smaller sized cigar shaped fish a Jardini!!

So why is it that I've seen and when I again RESEARCHED that arowana have been kept successfully with rtc? I read many threads on here about how never own a jardini with any other fish they simply just don't tolerate tank mates past 12" yet in those same threads were people who have jars that eat pellets and accept tank mates. I'm not going to turn this into a big debate my point is I've been on this site for long enough to see the arrogance in some of it's members. And how everyone's a tough guy behind a keyboard and mouse. I did my research I knew the risk involved but also knew that it "could" work because I've seen it first hand and the main thing I took away from all my research on this site is every fish is different they're not all the same each fish species has it's own personality what works for some may not work for all. And to take every advise from all the "experts" on here with a grain of salt. I tried to raise them all young together and I somewhat failed I came on here just to vent and hear what other options I had for a top water predator not to get belittled by smart ass know it all tough guys sitting behind a pc. For the most part this site is decent but there's a TON of bigotry and arrogance.

Anyways rant over I'll prolly trade in rtc catfish tomorrow and RESEARCH my newest addition....

You can keep them together you just need the rtc to be the much smaller or the 2 . I keep a RTCx TSN with a silver aro and bichirs but the cat is the smallest of them all. 7" cat , 13" silver, 11" and 15" bichirs.

Not sure what this has to do with the size of the tank your keeping HUGE growing fish in?

OP, sorry about your string of bad luck. Don't give up on your Jardini dream fish. Just get rid of the RTC and move on. I have a 16" Jardini with a Peacock Pass, Clown knife and two stingrays. He's a model citizen. GL

+1 I'm with Trent don't give up on jardini I'm on my third one in eight years lol , tankmates can be done its just fining the correct ones for your individual fish , mine have never been in solo tanks (my last one would chase and kill anything silver but my newest one is in with silver dollars atm ) yes you'll probably loose a few fish along the way but as long as nothing can swallow your jar you'll be ok .
If it was me I'd trade the rtc and go for another jar and some peaceful giants for cats Niger , irwini , giraffe etc they don't have giant mouths like rtc

a RTC can and will eat anything , you should not of been surprised.

Totally agree, first hand experience. Weird enough though, they do not swallow those of their own species, even though smaller. Losing a 500-1000 dollar fish to a 10 dollar fish really sucks big time. Moral of the story, if u want to keep RTC, make sure his tank mates are at LEAST double his size lol!
