Salt to me helps with slim coat an ich. I never had trouble catering to my cichla. In a big tank at 3'', it will be hard for the bass to find food, but if you do do (heheh) use a couple dozen feeds it would work as long as he is eating.

It is okay to just throw the feeders in. I never quarantine my feeders. I also do not know why people get pbass if they are not going to feed them live feeders. My friend Tommy had several pbass and that was all he fed them. Know what you are getting into before you buy.

Just because "tommy" only fed them feeders doesn't mean that was the best diet for them or the only option

IME, Cichla Can "burn" off any kinds of diseases. I have never had a case of any illness in any of my countless cichla (besides ich, but a UV handled that). I have always started them on feeders, then silver sider then shrimp to pellets to all thee above ( wild caught cichla). Time is all you need and a very of food. But all wee need is to get that guy eating. If you need, call me bro.

Keep your feeders separate, just throw them in a 5gal bucket or something you have available. Feed the other cichla first (pellets) once their full drop what your lil guy will eat in one setting, like two or three feeders only. Do this until he's fatten back up and looking good again. To just drop all 30+ feeders in your cichla tank is bad in two ways IME...One you risk a chance of ich and diseases the longer they stay in there and two; all your other cichla will eat the feeders as well making you have to make many trips back to buy feeders plus spending more money in feeders then you need too.

Instead of feeders how about live blackworms......But as stated....always feed the pellet eater first until they are full.

No quarantine is like not using a jimmy hat with a stranger:WTF:, it has its risks. I would go with live blackworms, so you don't risk your others.
