Not so monster fish question

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
No heater on the tank but the temp is stable at about 71-72 degrees. The only ones that the LFS carries around here are the exploding Marineland Stealths so we are going to get one when we treck out to PA.

Since there is a chance you may have toxins in your water, that's about all you can do. But, you tank won't be cycled in time to add the fish you have coming in. If you can clean the tank soon, refill with clean water and seed the tank with "squeezings" from an established filter, you should be OK. Be sure to add some fish meat or similar to keep your bio alive until the fish arrive.

Yeah, if you've only got a week, use Seachem Stability, and pure ammonia.

I am being a bit over analytical today so, sorry. But if you have access to pure ammonia stay away from it or you could end up killing everything in your house, including you.

there was mouse poison in the room, I am wondering if the stinkbugs landed on that then landed in the tank and spread it. If he syphoned all of the water out of the tank and bleached all decor, rinsed the sand and everything and refilled the tank with bottled water, would that be a possible solution?

That will likely work, I would avoid the bleach and just use hot water.

Based on everybodys suggestions, this is what we are planning on...
Full tank rip down and scrub
Biobag from my established tank
More of the biospira bacteria with some sort of dead fish in the bottom to keep the bacteria alive and maybe a little bit more of the bacteria the day that the fish arrive

The fellow member that we are getting the fish from said that she would give us more media as well.

Thank you so much for all of the advice guys and gals!

Melis
