I have to move in just over a week and I have 6 large tanks to move. The problem that I'm going to have is that I have to move all the tanks on the same day. I'm not sure how I'm going to even deal with having that many fish in buckets. Do you all think that I should take a bunch of the fish to the petstore before the move? I hate to do it, but I probably could cut back on the number of fish I have.

And I was thinking moving with my one monster is a problem............

I will be moving after a couple of months and I am preparing for that.

From what the experts are saying in here, I will be preserving all the bacteria from the filters to kick start the tank in my new home.

If you can manage to carry all the fish, then it will be fun.

All the best.

can´t you set up a few of the big tanks in someone´s garage for a week or two before the move?

I think you can do it, the hardest part will be moving the tanks themselves. I don't know the size of your fish but if they can fit in buckets, they you could probally put them in styro foam coolers. They would be easier to transport, without getting water every where. If your moving to the same town and save most of the bb, I would think the mini cycle would be over the same day maybe two or three days after.

Best of luck. I wanted to build a Plywood tank, but know I will be moving in a few years, and not sure how I would move the tank. So I opted not to build it.

You went through a major sell down ealrier this year, then you bought bigger and more. Sometimes we need restraint in life, if you do sell off again, just think before you rebuy again.
Good luck on your move.

i would have the petstore hold your fish, try to keep your filters going. Then at the last minute bring all your tanks, set them all up and hook up those filters fast! That way they wont lose the BB. Then go pick up your fish.

Yup, chances are you have a decent relationship with your LFS, so ask them to hold them for you, and do the tank move in 1 day, keeping the filters media sumberged in tank water in sealed plastic tubs. For the actual move.

Thats what I was going to do with my tank, but changes in circumstances meant I could get a single tank moved in a day, rather than 3 tanks!

There was a locla guy in the same situation a while back i remember. He ended up working out with the LFS to "rent" a couple of their tanks for 2-3 days for his fish exclusively, and used his filters on the tank so the bacteria dident die, and the fish wouldent be on the LFS central filtering system.

even if you dont know the owner of your LFS too well, money talks. if you enjoy all the fish you have, it may be the easiest way to move them, rather than having 6 tanks worth of fish in 5gal buckets, and doing the entire thing all in one day.
