Not sure how I'm going to move with so many tanks!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Set up some rubbermaids at your new place ahead of time...with cycled sponge filters and air...

Move your fish to the Rubbermaids...

...then tear your tanks down at your old place...

The fish will be OK in the rubbermaids (depending on how many fish/size of rubbermaids, etc.) for as long as you need to get things re-set up...

You can also set up the fish in rubbermaids at your current place so that you can get a jump start on tearing down your tanks.

Don't try to do it all in one day. It won't work.

I can't imagine trying to move that fish room of yours. Looks like you have to live there forever, and breed cichlids for the southern MD area.... :P

I think I will do the rubbermaid idea. I use to have more tanks, but I have less much much larger tanks. I will probably get rid of 2 of my 55s. Bad news is that I had the wrong move date. We are actually moving in the next couple of days. I will have no choice, but to use the containers. We are thinking about just making the garage a big fish room in this house. I really enjoyed having my big tanks in the living room and bedroom though. It is going to be a bummer having to go into the garage to look at my fish. I'm especially worried about the 3 Frontosa colonies that I'm moving. Those fish are expensive. I'm not to worried about my CAs, because they are much cheaper. I have one 10"ish Trimac that I may have to get rid of though.

I moved my fish in my 90 this way....

I got a 29 gallon rubbermaid. Put all my bio rings (i threw the mechanical away) in bags and dropped them into the rubbermaid to keep the bio alive. I also put half my gravel in the rubbermaid also to keep the bio alive. I put all wood rocks into the rubbermaid to give the fish a place to "hide". I drove for 5 hours like this and they all were fine. When I got to my new house I unloaded the tank and stand, set them up and began to siphon the water from the rubbermaid into the tank. Once I got almost all the water out of the rubbermaid and into the tank I put the fish in. After that I hooked my python up and put fresh water in (the beauty of doing it this way is its like a big water change). After that I set my canister filter up since it had the only bio that was still alive and got it started going. I then set my mechanical filters up (bio 350's) so the canister would seed them. No fish died while moving and was pretty simple. I think if you took this idea and used it for all of your tanks you will end up fine.

Wow!! GL on your move.. I hate moving and especially having lots of tanks. I did that in the pass and ended up getting rid of few tanks cause my new place wasn't big enough. bummer..

HELLO NEW TO THE SITE. BUT FISH ARE MY LIFE. IF IM NOT WORKING ON ONE OF MY TANKS. THEN IM READING OLD ISSUES OF FISH MAGAZINES CHECKED OUT FROM LOCAL LIBRARY. GOOD LUCK ON THE MOVE. U CAN DO IT IF YOU PLAN RIGHT. I LOVE THE STROFOAM COOLER IDEA, CREATIVE.

The move is somewhat winding down. I took a ton of cheaper CAs to the petstore. I kept my nice Rapps Midas pair, Uarua, Jaguar, Flowerhorn pair, Moba Frontosa colony, Mpimbwe Colony, and Burundi Colony. My Mobas are still relatively small, so I set them up in a 75 gallon. They should be good in there for another year or so. I moved all the other fish and their tanks. I only have 4 tanks left to move. I need to move another 75 gallon, 240 gallon, and 2 150s. I'm making the garage a fish room. I just bought a heater today and I have a moving company moving my 3 larger tanks tommorrow morning. I will probably move the last 75 gallon my self. It has been a nightmare breaking down the larger tanks. There is something to be said for systems that don't have wetdrys and advance plumbing setups. I will keep you posted with pics soon.
