instead of sleeping on the couch, you should have made them both sleep outside.

I smell when a skunk gets hit on my way to work sometimes. That stuff is potent and I'm only passing through quickly when I smell it. I can't imagine what it would be like up close and personal.

Hope the smell dissipates quickly for you and yours.

Same here, we're no strangers to road kill and when someone hits a skunk, duuuude....You can smell it for miles! And it lingers in your car! Its awful!!

From TVs Myth-Busters site:

The best solution for skunk odor removal was a mixture of Hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, and liquid dish soap. The Annotated Mythbusters website, episode 16 is the one that did this testing. Here's the mixture:

1 quart 3% hydrogen peroxide solution,
¼ cup baking soda, and
1 to 3 tablespoons dishwashing liquid.

I have found this to work best, having used it several times over the past few years with various dogs. Make sure the peroxide and baking soda are fresh though, and it's best to apply as soon as possible after the spraying happens. If the skunk oil dries, it's harder to get off.
In the end, your dog (and hopefully not your wife) will smell for some time regardless of how you clean them.
