So here's the skinny!

I got given a Silver dollar from a member of another site free of charge it was aprox 5.5" in length nose to tail, I already had 8 silver dollars which sizes ranged from 4 to 6 inches.

My new SD looks different tho from my other SD's it looks thicker and more ruff looking if you catch my drift? it has red on the end of the claudal fin slight and i mean slight flash of red on it's underside more silver than red it looks different to my larger SD's more thicker and it's head looks more meatier larger eyes with a slight tint of yellow sand colour to it.

It also likes to be on it's own more than been in the shoal with the other SD's it tends to drift off on it's own and hide between the rocks and bogwood.

I have a gut feeling this fish maybe a young red belly pacu just with out the red colour on it's belly well like i said a very slight tinge of red but not much at all.

Sorry i have no pictures of this fish to show you all. but if anyone has any ideas from what i have just said please feel free to offer your opinion.

Dan.

Dunno man, they're pretty different looking fish. The eyes, head, mouth structure, body shape etc. Pacus are longer, thicker even at young sizes, and are not silver :D

I think you probably just have a weird looking silver dollar.

There are several metynnis and myleus species.
Here is a pic by Keith Segura of a young red hook, and of a 3 1/2" red belly pacu from ****************

If it is a pacu, you will know soon enough, because it will quickly grow much larger than your SDs.:)

There are at least 2 dozen fish that are sometimes sold as "silver dollars", usually they come in together or mislabelled, here are the Metynnis altidorsalis (Dubosc), the Myleus ternetzi (Gerolimatos), the Mylosomma acanthagaster (fishbase), and the Myleus torquatus (Dr.Pez).

Pacu's are nice, when your 10 years old and get your first fish at just under 3 inches. 13 years later, my Pacu is about 11 inches long and eats everything in the tank!! LoL. My Pacu is the oldest living fish in my collections right now. Good luck with yours!!
