I hope I have a dwarf! My Local PetCo; Yes, Petco, has a 2 foot Pacu in their main display tank. Nice at that size, but no color to the body. Mine has grown slow because I do not feed it live food. Hikari Cichlid Bio-Gold Large and green wafers is his diet. I have moved him several times due to tank size: 10g, 30g, 75g, 125g, 400g! He is nice and has a really cool character about him, but he is big and compared to my other tanks, takes up pretty much the whole thing! I'll post pictures when he was in my 75g!
 
Sorry, this is my old 90g that he was in for a very short period of time. Due to he kept picking on my lungfishs!! They I got the 400g!
 
Try giving it Jungle labs antiparasite food, a low level of protozoals or even a tape worm could easily stunt growth in a pacu and not ever really cause problems.
 
Thanks Guppy. I didn't know a Tape Worms could be in Fish, but if they are in fish, does that mean that by cleaning your tank you could get a tape worm by an open wound???
 
i also dont give live food to my pacus i just feed them granules but hell they grow fast from 2.5" in feb to 6" today imagine that
 
Tape worms need to be ingested, so just don't lick the tank clean.
Also the species that live in fish don't often live in mammals
