I think for now i am going to stick with fish that can handle cooler water. I did learn though that even bettas can survive water getting down to 50F for some period of time with no problems.

Only for a very short period. I lost my betta due to temps around 55-50.
Considering they are commonly seen in vases with no heater it didn’t occur to me that one was needed if the room didn’t stay warm enough.
This was back when I started my first tank.
