I haven't been buying shrimp to feed the tank yet, but I was looking into it. Thanks for the info!
Not as far as I know. I've seen a local grocery store on several occassions cut open the bags of frozen shrimp and dump them into the display window.ballinouttacntrol;4599762;4599762 said:are you refering raw shrimp also? Is there a difference between bagged shrimp and the previously frozen shrimp you buy in the windows?
wild caught is not the issue. The most modern fleets can provide a good product. Most boats in the US are more like Forest Gump then the modern vessels you see on TV processing on the boat. The polution and over fishing are pushing fisherman further from shore to meet demand. The longer the product sits in the hold of ships the more chemical they add to protect the catch. Unless you prefer your fish frozen twice which is what happens to most of the calamari caught off RI. The catch is frozen and shipped to china for processing, thawed and re-frozen......its totally true.alexmuw;4599854;4599854 said:Thanks for the heads up!
For this reason, I try to buy as much wild-caught seafood and organic produce as I can afford.

Yeah kind of shady lol. I remember one time I had asked for 2lbs of shrimp from the window, and the guys says 'are you sure you want this one? you can get the ones in the bag over there for the same price, pre-packaged. it's the same stuff, we just cut the bags and dump it over the ice"ballinouttacntrol;4599887;4599887 said:That's messed up but i had always wondered if there was a possibility of that
if you want wild shrimp never buy tiger shrimp....mostly pond raised in Asia. Buy 16/20 size or larger....get White pacific shrimp from mexico. panama or ecudor....Excellent is good brand. Panama bay is also a good one. From Mexico try to finf Que brand or Ocean Garden. In white shrimp anything larger than a 16/20 count per lb is wild caught.alexmuw;4599854;4599854 said:Thanks for the heads up!

Shrimp has no oil.....till it hits the pan! It leaves no slick in your tank.....it would be very easy to see!Richie_ELP;4599949;4599949 said:This may be a stupid question, but is the seafood oil free? I haven't gotten any for myself or the fish for that reason. I haven't heard anyone say it's safe to eat yet. Then again, haven't asked.
