I am thinking the same, the reactor setup while it allowed for complete exposure to the purigen, after 7 days the reactor completely clogged due to the sponge on top of the purigen and stopped the flow of my canister completely!Yeah I agree purigen , great product like most seachem products, I would place purigen between floss in eheim 2217 canister and that would allow total water flow thru I believe much better than reactor setup, just my Opinion, Any Thoughts?
yeah exactly...I have the following setup:Seems like you may need a better prefilter to filter out the smaller particles that are clogging up the reactor. Kind of seems redundant though, like polishing the water so it can be polished....
no the sponge in the reactor is a coarser sponge, but to stop the purigen i used a 100micron media bag, and pushed the sponge inside like a sock...Is the Eheim Blue Sponge in your canister the same as the sponge that is sandwiching your purigen? Seems like if it is than nothing should be getting through that would be obstructed by the 2nd sponge
yeah thats contact time, because Purigen is a scavenging resin it needs slow flow and very high contact time.Something else is going on here. There are several vids on YouLube of people with fludised pruigen reactors with nice dark brown purigen. Whether its packed or fludised the water never physically passes through the purigen, as long as it is in contact with water is should suck out the impurities.
yeah thats what i had in my original reactor! it was "simmering" about 1" from the top of the reactor! but it didnt seem to capture anything, which is what lead me to stuff the media solid in the reactor. It was my understanding that you don't want the purigen fully fluidized but have the flow slow enough that it's at a low boil.
