Hey guys,
I was taking a few pictures of my fish today and in one of the pictures I noticed this crack (about 1" long)... I didn't know it existed until now. How worried should I be? The aquarium is a standard 240 (8' X 2' X 2') and has 1/2" acrylic.
It looks to be pretty deep and is exactly at the center of the right panel:

Will I be okay if I patch this up with 2 2" squares of acrylic on both sides? I'm arranging for a temporary 180 right now as well.

Interested in what others have to say. Hope this turns out to be an easy fix

You could drill a hole and use a bulkhead to cover the hole. That crack will only get bigger over time. Good luck buddy.
That sounds like your best bet unless you go top to bottom with your patch pieces (I have done that with glass tanks before).
Awesome. Thanks for your input guys. I think Ill just have to move all my fish to the 180 Ill be getting and drill a hole in this tank.

Hmmm.... excuse to upgrade to a 300? :p
I like your thinking here drill the. 240 and use it as a sump and get an upgrade, win win!

O. P. Good luck and let us know how it goes,
Haha :D! I'll get a bigger tank but why just a 300? I want to go big. But for now I'll be setting up the 180 on Tuesday, seeding it with bio media from my 240 and moving my fish over a day or two later. And as for the 240, I might just sell it off and start fresh with a different tank. I'm tired of this setup.

I figured 300 was one tier above the 240 hehe. I would also keep that 180 for later, could do a bunch of setup ideas with that! If I could fit it through the door that would have been my first choice.
