noto in 40 gal?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I don't think black phantoms would enjoy the higher heat requirements noto's like, they come from the Mato Grasso region, much cooler. Not sure about the congo's though.

As for difusing the aggression, I'd have to say in my tanks it didn't make a differance if they were alone or in a full tank. When kept as male/female, the male wouldn't let the female out much if at all except during feeding, and there was still much chasing. When get in 2m/2f, they didn't pay any attention to the dorsigera or tetras, just each other.

what schooling fish would you recommend? i know you said high bodied tetras, but could you be more specific? how warm should the water be? 80+?

82-84 ish ... I kept mine at 82 unless I was trying to get my pairs to spawn, but alas they never did. Tetras I'd use again are lemons, red eyes, diamonds, x-ray (pristellas) ... ones that have that diamond shape ... not ones shaped like rummynose or cardinals.

thanks again darth pike. i have an empty tank sitting at 83 degrees right now so that works. i think i'll go with pristellas. i just found out that jeff rapps has c. regani in stock! if only he had them before i bought the notos...

Yeah, am curious since regani aren't known from the Orinoco river ... but alas, tanks are in storage atm ... otherwise I'd more, need to break my record of keeping 3 dwarf pike species at the same time!!!

i say do it man! this will be time i've kept dwarf pike, so this is just a test run.

you mentioned that you have notos from wetspot... what are you feeding them?
he told me they are eating frozen worms and sinking pellets, but i wanted to know if you have them eating anything else... i breed bettas so i was going to give the notos a little live fish snack when i need to cull some fry.

I did, unfortunately had to put all my tanks in storage.

All my dwarf pikes received the same fare though (have had compressiceps, noto's, orinoco dwarves and only 1 female regani) ... which was frozen bloodworms, frozen mysis shrimps, frozen glassworms, frozen daphnia, freezed dried daphnia and freezed dried krill (those really tiny stripe ones).
