Now THAT'S a river tank!

That tank is amazing. I agree that a Panaque species would be a bit uncomfortable in it, as they tend to be more deep, slow water species, but some of the smaller stream dwellers would thrive in there.

(I know this is a hell of a bump but it's still on the first page, so why not?)

I posted a couple times in a few threads about these guys. If I am not mistaken this is more of a display setup showing the capabilities of their powerheads. They are not cheap but put out some serious flow as can be seen in this rafting tank setup. They have a similar tank that has had tiger fish, silver dollars and loaches in it for demonstration purposes. I love this tank and it's capabilities.

At least in some places, the habitats are quite seasonal: faster flow and lower water part of the year...then higher water and less flow during the wet season.

I think triggering spawning has more to do with replicating the natural change that occurs between the dry and wet season than with constantly blowing water over the fish (like that).

I've got a 150g with nothing but three Royal Plecos a big Paretroplus dambabe and a bunch of wood and hiding spots. The fish are all ~8-9", which is probably still too small for maturity (who knows!).

Anyway, whenever there's a big storm in the forecast, I try to do a big, cool water change to replicate the start of rainy season. There's always a level of activity and different behavior that is different than during regular weekly water changes.
