from my experience with rays i have never seen a ray make it once its head starts to cave in.Here is my flower ray.

I have seen it in my own tank. I bought a retic with the "hip bones" I brought it home and I noticed the head started to cave. Starting feeding a portion of live blood worms every day and is now starting to get fat, no hips or concave

It can happen, you just have to be willing to feed multiple times per day
