I have a variety of parachromis genus fish here at my restaurant and thought it would be interesting if I could get a hybrid out of them.

I have 3 female jaguar, male jaguar, gold morph female jaguar, 5 loiselle, 2 salvini, 2 cuban and 1 friechstal

I put my jaguar's and loiselle's into a 140g just to see what would happen. There was a bunch of show off going on an then it looked like my male jag to a liking to a female loiselle. Here is a picture of them doing a turf war against a loiselle pair.

I pulled the 4 other loiselle and left the 1 female in with the 4 jag's but made sure to watch and see if they were gonna try to kill her. The largest female jag laid a bunch of eggs but the male did nothing with them and they went bye bye. Then last night finally after a couple of months the loiselle and the jag got busy.

I shut the lights down and left for the night, and when I came this morning this was what was in the tank.

I pulled the 2 female jag from the tank and put them in my 300g, but left the gold morph female in the tank in the hope that maybe the male would take care of her as she is as well ready to lay eggs, or will the male simply stay with the female loiselle?

Will definitely update this thread on the progress of the eggs over the next few days to a week. If I get a batch of babies out of these eggs I am definitely going to be impressed.

Should I leave the gold morph in or take her out your thoughts, and do you think the eggs will hatch?

they will hatch. Parachromis cross very easily. You wouldn't be the first or last person to cross them. Try looking up "manaconda" that's the coolest parachromis hybrid I know of. I wouldn't raise any of the fry because that's not a very good hybrid to let get out on the market. A lot of the parachromis are hard enough to tell apart already especially with all the different collection sites and variations of them. If you wanted to keep 1 or 2 for yourself to see how they turn out then that is understandable but I wouldn't sell or give any away.

My fry are a cheap source of feeders, I let my fish breed all the time and use the young as feeders for my other fish, at least I know they are disease free.

What makes me curious about these is how my loiselle have this nice blue tint to the top and their fins go jet black when they go breeding color and the jag has a nice bluish golden tint to it. I am very interested to see what coloration comes off of the fry.

As of today there are about 10 eggs that have gone white, but the pattern that they were laid in has man not in a tight grouping so hopefull the fungus does not take all the eggs. Yet, fish are very prodigious when they get started.

Thanks for the info in the above post.

Yeah I have never used feeders unless I bred them. I've been feeding off a batch of hybrid fry for a while now. I have a male cryptoheros cutteri X cryptoerheros sepetemfasciatus that keeps breeding with a female convict so I just keep using them as snacks for everyone else.

Well came back after the long weekend and all the eggs were gone so I thought they ate them, but just behind the log they were laid on was a brown blob that was moving. So with a closer look, it would seem that I now have about 300 baby fish in the tank.

I would post a pic but nothing much to see. I am wondering if the parents will eat the fry or not.

ok so got digital camera how can one not take a pic or two :)

ok so took a couple of pics today, very funny to watch the mother constantly taking up the wanderers and spitting them back into the group.

and the fish have begun to widen the space they hold by a good 4-6 inches

Parachromis are good parents and their spawns tend to get larger every time if you keep their bellies full. I wouldn't be surprised if you had another spawn of them by next weekend. Any plans to move them yet or are you just going to let the parents raise them? How many do you plan on keeping?
