1 of my Ntt's are breathing very rapidly and it looks like he may have something stuck in his throat?
Is there anything I can do to help him?

That is what mine went through before they checked out, parasites in the gills, flukes maybe. You must get him to a smaller hospital tank and treat with aquarisol or another mild parasite med ,and quickly.I learned this too late, this what happened to the indo you were supposed to get from me.

What causes this parasite?

As far as I can tell ,nothing really causes it,it is a lower form of animal that lives freely in water.Water changes cuts down on such occurances and probably whatever holding tanks the current batch of baby dats were kept in before exporting from their origin, the water wasnt paid close enough attention to.I might as well admit that I have never been big on quarantine tanks through the years untill recently and I can now see where placing a new fish in such a tank with treated water would deal with such problems. It seems that the thinbars are the weak fish of the group but they are my favorites.

yEA THEY ARE MY FAV too next to the ST's. But I dont have any of those..I cant c myself spending that kind of money on a fish yet..

Well I've got the hospital tank set up now, and trying to catch the little bastard w/o messing up my tank:irked:
Hope I can save him:nilly:

Tear up your tank if it means saving him.

I was able to get him w/o tearing it up..:naughty:

He's being medicated in a 10g right now..
Hope he makes it..He swimming around right now and looking good, but still breathing hard.

If you have another thinbar ,you might as well place him in there also good luck.

Yea I do..He looks ok tho??
The meds won't do anything to him if he doesn't have it?

The meds wont harm the other one and if you got them from the same place even if at different times then the other may have something. In my experiences by the time the gasping started it was just about too late anyway so dont wait untill you see something wrong to start treating.
