NTT on IUCN List as Vulnerable

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I don't see it on there and I'm having a hard time trying to figure out why Jeremy Wade would care really...it might be a vulnerable fish but it isn't a monstrous fish. His job doesn't involve reviving species back to healthy populations (at least I don't think it is)

He probably can't/won't do any thing about it but he is a biologist and works on a global scale. I think more than anything it might help get the topic some exposure among people who might actually be able to help in some way.

i said this over 5 years ago and everyone lol at me and i just got told that everyone had loads for sale in there area

as ST were the 1st to be banned from Thailand then it wouldn't shock me if they also banned NTT next

as for not liking them NTT are my 2nd fav tiger

all tigers have been over fished and i would say within the next 10 years you will see them all getting harder to get due to them taking years to mature and sooooooo many 1-2 inch being sold the adult population doesn't have time to regain strength

if it does happen we only have our selfs to blame as we buy to many i see people with 150 gal tanks and 10-15 tigers in it even in a 250 gal the most you will be able to keep long term is 5 max

just buy the fish you intend on keeping don't forget they have a very long life and in over 15 years i have only had 15 tigers don't just buy for the sake of buying

For all the anti-deformed/imperfect fish talk you give, it's stuff like this that makes me respect the hell out of you.

i like this guy because he is straight forward enough.....he goes for the perfection...and me goes for the imperfection...hahahaha...

Good point Richard. Interestingly have you seen the number of Tigers for sale on the classifieds here in the UK? Lots of Indos in particular and they don't seem to be selling fast at all.
I feel the popularity of Tigers is fading in general here in the UK. They've been too hyped IMO.

I agree with what you say about overstocking the tanks. Here you have a fish that grows bigger than a Oscar (albeit much, much slower) and as you say people buy several youngsters and put them in tanks not big enough longterm. They wouldn't do that with a load of Oscars would they? I'm likely to have to let go of mine next year but thats only because we're likely to move abroad-otherwise a tank upgrades for certain.

Overall I thinks its a sorry state of affairs

Agree with above.
But most people Do it cause they can get away with it for a few years as they grow
Slow. I'm no different. I over stocked wit tigers in a 125 , then upgraded to 225g and still overstocked. So thinning out again!

It's hard to resist of buying, when they are so cheap in value.

I have overstocked 120G tank too > 2 SR, 4 Indo, 3 NTT, 1 NGT, and 2 Pleco
