Nuchal hump question - Convict

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Dont know personally what it comes down to, basic theory here (probably to be shot down quickly in flames LOL). My first male was fairly peacful, not hump, my current male, hump really starting to develop nice, plenty of aggro, (prolly means squat tho)

I don't think that the growth of humps has anything to do with dominance/behavior/aggression though.
I guess all I can think is that "not all of them has them(nuchal hump)" due to special reason.Gene, quality of life,care......

I kept all males together with a big red devil and the most dominant male had a big hump. Ever since I removed him from his brothers, his hump hasn't came back.

Nice White Cons Spizz and Pingpong!

Similar to some of you guys, I've found the best humps come when there are several males together (the dominant one gets the monster hump). That can be rough in a small tank though, and of course genetics play a huge part.

The Breeding pair I had was that the female had no hump but the male did so MOST of my cons had humps, you basically have to do a punnett square to get its exact gene and so on my Black Con Female had the Dominant gene and my male Pink Convict the one with the hump had a recessive gene, the hump is a different set of genes that is only eminent in males. Sorry for all the biology mess.

i have 3 male cons (4.25, 4.5, and 5) all in a 55 and they all had small nuchal humps going from biggest being te most dominant to smallest the most submissive. I removed the oscar, and immmediatly the biggest con was kind of the tank and his hump grew
