This is a good thread. What about the cichla from Miami Florida? Some call them hybrid some call them ocellaris, but whatever you call them they have formed their own, I think they should be considered also. Good luck to everyone with their cichla:)

What do you mean by Cichla nigromaculata "real ones" ???? What do they look like? got a pic???

So the pic of me, legga and switch, are those "REAL" nigro??? or fake????

What's the difference???? (curious)

remember to only add the fish you have now, not have had, thats what it said to do earlier in the thread, and add your fish to the #s already on there, simple copy and paste from the last guy who did it right, doesnt look like most are even trying lol, this thread was a good idea, so lets do it right

Aside from some of more obvious characteristics of nigro, the lateral line should be discontinuous in "true" nigro I think. As example shown here:

According to literature, if lateral line is continuous and specimen looked like nigros, then its an ocellaris.

I don't mean to come off rude or anything but I'd hate to waste all the effort that is/will be put into this thread with info that isn't relevant (did have, want to have, etc.), so just spend the time to read before posting. All that matter is what you currently have alive in your tanks. It really isn't that hard. Discussion of the sp. seems appropriate also.

Just add the number to the number that is already on the list. If you have a sp. you think should be added, then add it.
