lol thx why is it not that common in the hobby (just curious) ? ive been reading that there very peaceful if it doesnt fit in their mouth n mine is just fun to watch when sneak attacking the plankton

It's just one of those fish you don't see a whole lot. It's not rare in the wild or anything, and it's not difficult to breed them in captivity.

they're not common because they really are meant to be kept by themselves as a species only tank, and the common person wants "pretty" fish and lets face it the belonesox pike isn't the nicest looking fish.

Belonesox are a cool fish. I used to have a 4" pair. They cost me 20 bucks each. After a few months, fish farms started selling them and 3"ers went for 6 dollars each. They have babies every 6 weeks or so. I got rid of my pair because they kept dropping fry and without any live foods for their fry, they would all die and I would have 60 rotting fry in a tank with sensitive fish.

PS. your female looks ready to drop some fry. I worked with my fry (super painstaking) and now they recognize me and beg for food and eat whatever I feed them. The farm bred/wild caught adults are usually very skittish.

well she is a lil chunky but dont think she is she just attacks all the food at onece had to slow it down last week but my africans on the other hand are almost worst then convicts
