:nilly:Has onyone tried this? Nylon tape that is between 50 lbs and 130 lbs for the wider tape wound around the aquarium bottom and top many times to give a lot of extra holding power of the back and front pane to the sides and bottom of the aquarium? 10 times around would give 1000 lbs of holding power on the top and that much more on the bottom holding power for tape that was 100 lbs test strenght. Narrow tape say 3/4 inch wide at about 50 lb test strength wound around side by side, total 1 1/2 inch to add up to 100lb test on big tanks. For long lasting power you could use black silicon to coat it with to prevent long term water damage.

yeah but then the weight would be towards the center.. and u might have a blow out that way.. might work to keep pieces together but i dont really see it allowing for more pressure

actually the highest pressure is found on the bottom of the tank and lessens as you go up. the aquarium bows in the middle because that's where it has the least amount of support. as for the tape, it'll probably be only beneficial on glass tanks. glass tanks already come with the needed support so i don't really see any benefits adding the tape. in very large glass tanks you'd probably want to use steel instead of nylon.

True the most pressure is probably on the bottom of the tank so you would need to use a lot of the nylon tape to the bottom portion of the tank and I will. I will have about 760 lbs of holding power at each bottom corner and that much again at the top total 1520 lbs of holding power at each full corner top and bottom. With my 3/4 inch glass there should be little bowing, I do have Eurobracing in 3 places along the top. The tank seems built strong like a german tank :) I am really excited about this new type of bracing for big tanks.

correct but any help on tank strength in part or in whole is always a real good thing.

Not at all mystix 212, it is straight and looks professional, nylon tape is very strong and when you layer it, it becomes extremely strong. Possibly one of the best ideas to come along for real big tanks in a long time. I will use a flat coating of black silicon to hide and preserve the extra support.

I'm just curios, how "big" is BIG to you? 300g and up? 700? Now, I don't know what I'm talking about, but since the glass will be so much thicker than smaller tanks, might it not be better to add screws at the joints? My intuition tells me that wrapping top and bottom will cause undue and additional stress at the center, unless you just wrap up most of the tank, but then you can't see the fish. :)
