ok so I got the tank a few weeks ago and have been debating what to put in it and have changed my mind only a couple hundred times lol. This is my first tank in a couple years and can really be my only tank that's what is making me go nuts. Idk if anyone remembers me back from when I used to be more active but I used to be a huge oddball fish guy and natives. I love preds and big fish but here is my thing now. I need this tank to keep me entertained. I love fish with personality and I love fish with good colors... So far I have been setting the tank up for lake tanginykan cichlids but now am not so sure that's what I want. Btw it/they must be able to live in a 75 for life. Help me figure out what the heck I want before I go crazy lol.

Acestrorhynchus falcatus, Red Tail Barracuda. They are pretty cool.

How big so they get and are they schooling fish? Also tank mates? I was also thinking about a type of payara(sp?). Idk right now I just want to hear some more options I have forgotten about.

They get around 12"-14" they can be kept singly, but look so much better in a group, you can probably get away with 3-4 in a 75. As far as tank mates go, they can appearently be kept with fish of similar size, they do prefer live food though so I would be careful with tank mates. Most payara species grow far too large for a 75g, like 26"+

In the payara care guide in the other monster fish forum it says that both scombs and tats only get about ten to twelve inches... That would be cool if I could fit three or four in there maybe with some clown loaches or syno cats?

I used to keep a bunch of different natives and if I had a source I would get another bowfin and our pickerel in a min but since I don't I want to try something new.

When you say "I need this tank to keep me entertained." It's an interesting statement, as though I love predatory fish and aggressive fish, creating an entertaining tank is sometimes difficult with them, know what i mean? A lot of times these fish are loners, and or reserve their energy for burst of attack... i dunno, its an interesting proposition to create a visually stimulating tank with them - not saying it cant be done, but it takes a bit of work no?

For scombs def not, from what I've seen anyway. I think tats might stay smaller though, & yeah that'd be pretty cool.

I know exactly what you mean. I've tried biotopes with predatory species before, and I must say maintainance is not the easiest thing with them.
