oaxaca cichlid or midas cichlid ? need help ASAP

Jd go for 3.99 at petsmart, get the best looking juvenile and just let it grow. They grow pretty fast.. no need to buy an adult fish. Firemouths for 2.50.. you can buy some decor but prob not a filter. Whats ur current filtration?

im currently using a 250 aqua clear filter , and won't the oaxaca and severum hunt them down since they are smaller ? even though theres hiding places ?

I doubt it. Severum are generally peaceful... the oaxaca might be a problem since they can be aggressive but with enough hiding spots I think you would be okay. All fish are different so you can't really go by the books all the time - you won't know until you try.

Introducing several adult fish to a single tank at the same time can also be a problem since most cichlids get much more aggressive after becoming sexually mature, and they would already be used to a different setup. so an adult male JD would probably be worse, and more expensive in the event of any losses.

As for the filter, HOBs aren't really a good idea for cichlids. You can build a sump filter for little $ that will do 10x times a better job. There was a recent thread in here where this guy built his own 20 gal sump in a few days and it came out really nice. I'll look for it and post it here.
