Something which I have recently noted since I've begun visiting certain forum sections lately, is the pompous attitudes of a few people on here. If somebody says they have Tank A with Fish A + B, these people make it their business to inform the person that their tank will be overstocked in the near future. Guess what. THEY KNOW THAT!!!! If we have a certain fish, then I would assume that most of us would be aware of the size these fish get. However, members like to put it out there, quite frequently, while at the same time, in most case, berating or belittling another member for an immediate response. The first example that comes to mind, is the CA/SA section. Give that section a visit, and you'll see that it's overrun by those people. My friend on here, Dovii88, purchased some dovii. He has a 55 gallon. He knows about fish. He knows that the 55 isn't big enough to house them for life. We're all aware of that. You're not a genius for telling us they get to big or immediately asking where are we going to put them. I could make this a lot longer but I doubt most of you will read past the first few lines, so for those of you that constantly offend, we're aware of the situation. Thanks.

The reason many members point this stuff out is because new people in the hobby are simply not aware of the sizes their fish will get - if you will go to a pet store they will tell you 2 Oscars, Aro, 3 Plecos "to clean the tank", and a Red Devil is fine for 55 gallon - people believe that. Another huge problem is many people still end up getting fish for their smaller tanks knowing that the fish will get too large, when questioned they simply say "I plan on getting a bigger tank" and never actually do. Oh, and forgot to mention with people simply dumping their overgrown fish into wild.

Nothing wrong with spreading proper information around.

I agree with this, but the tone in which the message is delivered is very important as well.

I understand spreading proper information around, but do they need to say it 2-3 times, in the same thread! That seems a bit excessive. Not to mention the 3-4 other people that say it in the thread. Yeah, some of them are beginners, but if a person on here has as many posts as Dovii88 or I have, then we don't really need people reiterating that we'll need a bigger tank. Thanks, I know.

It's the repetitiveness that really gets me. Dovii aren't exactly common fish to find, so I would assume that anybody that purchases them, is aware of how big they get.

There are members that start off with cursing and belittling the member who "offended" the fish per gallon rule. Then there are those sly people that work that little message in there, and that can get annoying to.

That is basically an issue with every thread, if someone will post a picture you will get 30 messages that are the long the lines of "awwWEssome!!!!!". If you post asking how large a fish will get, you will get 10 people saying 10" and another 8 saying 12". Just the way forums are. ;)

Dovii's are all-over the place, at least around here.

ahahha, this is Benfica540 on Dovii88's name btw.

The problem is the repetitive nature of it. Especially in the CA/SA section. The moment somebody mentions they have a dovii or umbee, the immediate statement is, your tank is not large enough.

Most of the time that is the case. ;)

By the way, if you think that someone is starting fights just for the hell of it.. report the post or PM a moderator.

No one needs to get up off their high horses. You need to take the response of other people and justify that you know how big the fish get and you have an exit plan when that said fish is getting big. This will happen on any forum when you say you bought 3 dovii for a 55g. The people here are experianced keepers and not mindless drones that speak one word responses of "Awesome" "great pickup!" when there's an underlying issue that they think needs to be said.

If you have a large enough tank for the fish and then pick them up then you will hear nothing but great things. But you are hearing the questioning of tank size simply because most people buy fish and then have an exit strategy of "I'll upgrade later or give them back to the lfs" which the later, isn't exactly a great plan.

I have no problem with growout tanks but alot of members live the life of "don't buy the fish if you don't already own the tank that's big enough" Which is probably a great thing to get into the habit in. And It seems every fishkeeper under the age of 18 around here likes to band together and "fight the good fight" saying everyone else is wrong for voicing an opinion or some advice.

There is a difference between "grow out tank" and "I'm young and this 55g is all I can afford so it'll have to do"
