i don't remember signing any "social contract".

I'm not a socialist but the whole idea behind what she talks about is the foundation of what taxes and government are for. Prior to the US, governments existed to extort a good living out of their people. The US experiment was the first to pioneer a nation that serves its people. I think taxes are part of that. Its something we all pay into so we can all take out of it. I would argue against progressive taxes of any kind, even what we have in place today because they don't propel people to success but rather discourage it. At any rate I think there is a good conversation to have about Taxes, entitlement and potential responsibilities of the federal government.

nobody is saying it's your fault (at least that's not what i'm saying), rather it's your responsibility to find work. i encourage you to not give up (not that you are) and i commend you on your hard work and dedication to your family. you should be proud of yourself as i'm sure your family is too.

sounds like you got a raw deal from your bank though, how is it that they can recall your loan? was that somewhere in the contract you signed? because if not, you might have a good lawsuit.

Even if its in the contract he might have a good lawsuit since it could be construed as predatory lending and that makes it eligible doesn't it???

it sounds like her idea is that taxes are for schools, roads, cops and firemen (and whatever else she whims). i strongly disagree. if you want these things, you pay for them imo. how can someone say "here we bought you this, by the way you owe us money now". thanks, but no thanks, i'm fully capable of spending my own money!

i stated before that government was created to protect individual rights and that's it. anything more than that is a violation of the rights it was created to protect. government should only pay for what is essential to protect individual rights, the rest is up to society or the individual.

...so which are you going to stop using first: public roads, police/fire protection or the electrical grid.

By the way, did you attend public school?

Matt

why would/should i stop using any? did i not pay for them too? my point is that if i wasn't being forced to pay for these services, i could choose and prioritize where my money goes.

do you think it's fair to forcibly take peoples money (via taxes) and spend it on things you deem good for them? why do you feel that you have more right to their property than they do?
