mono

ocellaris

and a little more help:

- mono: 3 short bars that do not go past the lateral line, black splotches on side of body

- ocellaris: 3 faint bars (on some the bars are not even visible) that go from top to bottom, blood red eyes (even at young age), 3rd stripe is sometimes a "spot" high on the shoulder with gold spangling, as in above pic

...and my florida ocellaris

Damn...guess you guys are right...now that i think about it, the place where I bought these 2 lil guys has one about 16" to 20" and it looks exactly like the one in pic#1 the Mono. This guy swears they are Ocell... anyway thanks for the I.D., you guyz got mad skillz to be able to ID a 6" fish from such a shi$%Y pic. Now tell me where i can find more Cichla, help a brotha out!?!?!?!?!?

LOL at 6" its pretty easy, unless its a hybrid then all that IDing stuff goes out the window! and when theyre 2-4", it can be pretty hard to tell apart a mono from an ocellaris.

just browse through the marketplace here; folks always selling cichla :)

Monos are the most common, and they are still awesome:nilly:

My peru mono has those little markings in his eyes also
