This is my pre journal to my octopus keeping. I am keeping a pair of O.Mercatoris in my 30gallon. It will be a FOWLR with purple barnacles for to help them make caves. They only problem is I am not 100% sure I will get a pair as most distributers don't know how to sex. Hopefully my journal will be made a sticky to help others wanting to keep octopus. And maybe if I get a pair I can get a generation out of them! Wish me luck, if you have any questions on them I may be able to help you since I have researched them a lot recently.

No one has anything to say

Well the season for catchin the mercs is out so there not rlly avilabe so I gotta find them first. And when I start the journal there will be tons

nice good luck i heard their hard to care for is that true?

Well from all the research ive done and talked to ppl who own them. They said there pretty easy but they are fragile with there arms and intakes and also too much lighting can kill a nocturnal octopus. But they are very intelligent! One would always try to get attention from his owner and want him to pet him. So he would come to the sureface and say hi! And they tend to only live for 10-13 months and if you can get them to breed you will be set for another 10-13 months

This will be exciting. I considered keeping octopus for awhile and did a lot of research till I realized that they only live a year and a half. My brother's girlfriends family owned one when she was little, and apparently it lived for quite a while longer than that. No idea what kind it was, but she said that at night it would get out of its tank and you could watch it crawl from tank to tank in the fish room. No lies. :headbang2

Well, you get most octopus when they are later in their lives. So I really am trying to start just got a lot goin on

Fishy...I thought you and I discussed which direction you were going and came up with some pretty solid ideas. Ha ha, if you look around this website I have probably asked everyone a question or two about setting up every kind of tank. I understand dabbling and that sometimes it doesnt happen, but you have thrown the gauntlet down. I am expecting to see octopus setup pictures... :headbang2:D:headbang2

at my old since lab they had an octopus in a room with all the other fish tanks, when they cam in the next day some fish would be gone, this went on for about a week until they left a video camera on at night. it showed the octopus climbing out of the tank and into the other tanks to eat the other fish and then returning to his tank
