Octopus?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I use to scuba dive here in Washington and have seen some, only at night though. From what I understand the Pacific Octopus is the largest and definitely not suited for the aquarium! (not that anyone would)

the pacific octopus has been in people's private fish tanks... it is just really rare to get one and potentially dangerous...

if you get a octupus you should make sure that you glue your rocks togther.so that they dont pull the live down and falls on them and also you must make sure that it doesnt strap its ink because that means a total water change if you catch it because it toxic to them if you leave to long

a 5-10" octopus could probably fit through your urethra. it's going to escape.
I've never heard of that happening.I've kept a few in the past and they are among my favorite pets.I would think that any of the better LFS that deal in saltwater could get one for you when you are ready to keep it.Do your research.

Totally not appropriate thing to say. But hilarious, and there is some truth behind this.

Dont want to jump on the band wagon, but research is important. A couple other things you might want to know. Octo's are generally very reclusive, so you probably wont see much of him. If stressed, he can ink, which will seriously put a damper on any day with a complete tank waterchange, which will stress him more - potential death? He is incredibly smart, and may get bored and try to escape - no one likes to find octo under the carpet. And last but not least octos only live about a year and a half, and people dont know why. So you never know how long yours is going to live.

Good luck, I think it would be awesome. Done a lot of research, but never went through with mine, just decided it was something that wasnt really my style, or interest.

They used to sell octopus at this LFS in Gainesville called Aquatropics. They were about 10"-12" but pretty pricey and I'm sure they probably get bigger.

I have only personally seen one for sale once at my LFS and my buddy who works there had got one through the store a couple years back. His lasted for a couple of hours then began to rip its legs off, spit ink everywhere, and then it died.

Octopus should only be left to expert aquarist and to those who know how to properly care for them they have short life spans most less then a year, they require alot of work and specially built tanks where they cannot escape and can be protected from impellers and other dangerous aquarium equipment. I recommend not to try them but if fixed on it seek proper help through the members and keepers over at www.TONMO.com you can find me there under the name lance

Tells me it would be a lot of work to have an absolutely awesome monster, but in the end too much work!

They are quite intelligent and a lot of fun to play with but gee, is it worth it?
