Gus my silver has a very nasty habit of slamming the glass- only though- at night after i turn the tank light off. He will sit in utter silence for a moment or two and then go bananas. Flopping slamming and doing so in such a way that sometimes I feel like he has jumped clean out of his cage though he never does. Do arowana need a night light as it were? Cause his whatever condition of the dark causes my 80lb dog to berserk as well and she is now more terrified than ever to come in the "scary fish room".

I think its unusual that it is happening at night. Normally they seem to spoke on visual cues and having the lights off would help. Not sure on this one.

I saw gus before, he is wierd. Maybe a nightlight will work

We are using a moon light now- makes it hard for us to sleep but he doesnt go ape in the tank now.
maybe throw a towel infront of the tank? i cant wait to potentially get a silver aro one day, silly salesman tried to sell me an 8" aro for my 70gallon tank. I wasnt fooled in the slightest. They are also expensive here, it was equivalent to 104USD

As a suggestion, see if you can gradually reduce light over a period of time, 30mins or so, trying to mimic sunset & dust, and then to total darkness. My larger fish also get spooked going light to dark, and total darkness to bright light, not to the extent you describe though.

The current satellite plus led lights are perfect for this they have a dusk till dawn setting if you buy the timer that goes with them it just ticks along nicely on its own
