My unfaded red texas has been acting a lot more aggressive than normal the past few days, eating voraciously, his colors have never been more intense,no changes in the tank have been made, temp is 79, ph 7.6, amonia 0,nitrite0, nitrate 5,not too concerned, he and and tankmates are vey healthy, just wondering if anyone might know what triggers this

He could just be asserting his dominance. He is obviously a hybrid, and if he indeed has Texas in him then there is no question of where his aggression is coming from. One of my close friends had a beautiful Red Texas (that he payed big money for) and this fish would actually jump into the tank next to it to attack the neighboring fish. I didn't believe him till I saw it happen!!! From that day forward I had a new respect for the insanely aggressive attitude of a Red Texas.
