i got a few new baby bichirs and they are odd as hell, for some reason they stay at the top of the water.

is this normal for them to do when they are put in a new tank?

maby there oxygen hungary but they air air breahers so why dont they just gulp some down??????/ very wierd

When I had my bichirs one of them was always at the top and the other at the bottom. When I first got them they both stayed at the top then one went to the bottom.

it dont sound healthy to me, maybe you should ad more circulation too your tank, just my opinion

Its fairly common for very young bichirs to hover near the surface I've had a couple live in plants near the surface -Anne

I recently added a baby senegal bichir to my tank, and he is a surface dweller :D

Active, eating, healthy - just likes to hang around at the surface with my peacock bass.

Yup sounds normal.

I also had a senegal and albino senegal literally live in the floating watersprite. Only came down for food.
Just chilling in the plants

I think its quite common for young birchir to stay at top of the tank....
as my 3 baby birchir also always like to swim at the top...they are around 3 to 4 inches....

wen mine were babies they did that too. i think they hide in the plants for protection and thats why they are near the top

i think it is ok.. during this period when u jus release them into the tank, they will hover ard the top of the tank and get quite jumpy. do rem to cover ur tank and switch off the lights. once they are acustom to the tank environment, they will start to slack ard at the bottom of the tank.
