bowfins are lazy. It won't go after the gillies unless they're right in front of his mouth

^^ this is not true that bowfins wont after bluegills, they regularly prey on these sunnies. Bowfins aint lazy fish either, they rarely stay in one spot for long periods, they are always on move.

I have a shellcraker( pumpkin seed) I just have never tried breeding fish

Today I caught a very light blue bluegill about 4 inch long and its dorsal and anal fins are spotted. This sunfish was so bright blue that you can easily spot it in dark water during cloudy day.
