the company could have at least offered to give insurance on the package through the shipper for an extra price, I am sure that would have been better than loosing a sale and that way IF something happened, then reptiletubs would deal with the paperwork and headaches...

Then you would be opening another can of worms by having the third party insure the sellers product, thats the customers responsibility. I think he did right by telling brooklyn that the tubs could be purchased, but at their own risk and gave the reasons why. What if brooklyn bought and seller didnt say anything about weather extremes and they came in damaged? I think the topic of this thread would of been a hell of alot different and then brooklyn would be complaining about them being dishonest and then not be laughing it away like in this scenario.

NO-THEY DIDN'T THINK TWICE ABOUT SHIPPING. They told me they will ship but i'm on my own if FED EX demolishes the tubs.

OK, nevermind, you convinced me i'm the crazy one and the entire plastics industry should shut down NoV-April.;) Dealing with shipping issues can be rough, you know, when you are essentially an internet company that (Duh) ships stuff all over the place. To think *GASP* that you may have to consider dealing with these issues to maintain some level of customer service is just simply too much to ask, huh?
The guy could have easily gotten $125 out of me in a matter of minutes (3 tubs, one t-stat) if he was a smart businessman.
Your comment regarding "Dealing with customers who are looking out for their best interests" certainly makes me wonder about your business practices. Customers are not your enemy, unless you make them so.;)

I dont get why you get so defensive when you hear a point of view that doesnt agree with yours. :screwy:

Re-read the last paragraph again........I like Customers.......They let me do what I love and make a living at it.........However, I, like many have turned people away or offered other options when a shipping issue can't be compensated for........I know my limits on how and what I can ship when the conditions are condusive.......When they aren't condusive, other options are given........Fairly simple isn't it?.........Dishonest customers are another issue altogether, and I run into quite a few now-a-days.......I've even had people call/E-mail me trying to get a refund on something I've never sold them.......Thats why terms of service are made, to protect buyers and sellers from dishonest practices..........

I guess the reptile tub trade is the most unique industry ever in the history of the world because when you buy a product that is shipped to you that arrives damaged, you call the company and tell them it arrived damaged. This is common practice; it's kinda how every business does business. I find it hard to believe reptile tubs does not fall in to this realm. It is absolutely ABSURD to think the difference between a tub arriving intact versus arriving damaged is determind by ONE DEGREE. The guy said he doesn't guarantee shipments "Below freezing".
If you truly believe it is the CUSTOMERS responsibility to ensure products arrive intact you are absolutely crazy. Remember this when your plasma TV arrives damaged. Why didn't you take steps to prevent this from happening?
To answer your question directly, if I ordered these tubs and they came in damaged, I would expect Reptiltubs to send me more tubs N/C and it is his responsibility to take up the claim with the SHIPPER. This is how it works in the rest of the world. NO big deal, no drama-just take care of it. Nobody loses and reptiletubs has to do a little paperwork and wait a few months for a check from the third party insurance company that works with Fedex. Or he could charge ONE DOLLAR more for his tubs to recoup any losses he ever incurs in the future.
Frankly, I shouldn't have to tell you how to run a business.
By the way...I can buy a complete multi-thousand dollar RACK SYSTEM made of PVC right now that will ship in any weather short of a volcano. A volcano isn't "Weather" though. I don't see Vision/Boaphile/etc telling me they can't ship because it's cold outside!

Go back and read and notice who got aggressive with whom before allowing your personal feelings to stand in the way of being objective.

OK, fine-I agree with all of that. Unfortunatley we are talking about shipping a tub via fedex. Simple measures are in place to prevent both the shipper and customer from getting screwed by a shipping mishap.
It's not rocket science.

I'm not done...:D
For some reason, I don't see Dr Foster & Smith, PetSmart, Petco, Pet Solutions and numerous other internet companies refusing to ship simple dry goods because it's cold. Furthermore, I don't see them leaving you hanging out in the breeze should UPS or FEDEX destroy your shipment!
I don't know what makes the internet so special. It's like you online vendors are out of touch with how normal people expect to buy stuff.
I suspect most of these companies are hardly in business at all.

Here's a crazy idea Brooklyn, why don't you go ahead and open up your own tub business and then run it whatever the hell way you want to. Just because this vendor doesn't want to be held responsible for the tub being damaged for xyz reasons and brought it up front to you makes him an honest person and in my book that's a hell of alot better than some of the sh&t I've seen go down in the last 15 yrs that I have been around the reptile industry, it may not have gone according to what you wanted to have happened, but in the end it's really up to the consumer as to the decision of buying or not buying. This rant about the tub and it's non guarantees is getting old, and you jumping down peoples throats because they counter argue or disagree with your way of thinking is getting old, you want to throw a temper tantrum? Punch a pillow or go scream out your window, but this pissing contest is over on mfk. You dig?
