Odd fish behavior.

I've never seen this before with my fish. Not sure yet why he's doing but my Gourami is starting to freak out when I clean the glass on my tank. Freaks out to the point that he smashes into everything knocking himself silly. He flops around for about 30 seconds drops to the bottom for about 10 and the is up and swimming right as rain again. Pretty odd, its almost funny is a sad sort of way. Hopefully he doesn't go so nuts that he eventually kills himslelf.

Sounds like he's stressed. What are you water parameters?

Maybe try turning the lights out for a bit before cleaning, that should reduce stress levels a bit. Try to go slow, sudden movements and noise in a tank is stressful to pretty much any fish.

water parameters are pristine. The thing I find odd is he started all of a sudden after 3 years with no changes in routine.

DO you have a new scouring pad or cleaning device? Change in the pitch of the scraping sounds could cause the stress!

nah the cleaning was the glass on the outside with a paper towel

What do you use to clean the glass? Windex or anything? If so, do you spray it near the tank?

Windex but I spray it on the rag before wiping down the glass
