Odd pair (Thai silk and texas)

I never pursued growing their fry. I decided to stay the course with my sb rt project and these fish wouldn't have helped much there. Good thing too, with the poor genetic health displayed by most silks the fry would have been worthless in my eyes anyways.

My lfs sells whatever I bring them but it's a personal policy of mine to not release subpar specimens to the public. Like I said, in my eyes they wouldn't have been worth it.

Agree 100%...theres a difference between breeding to see what happens and breeding for purpose...why waste the tank space on fish you don't have a plan for.

He was frequently Ill after he got to about 6". I worked with him every time it popped back up but I finally realized what I was seeing in him was inbreeding depression. He was never aggressive and just about anything overtook him. I bought many silk juvies from a few different breeders and many turned out deformed or were prone to sickness. I have no faith in the strain and won't touch them again because of these issues. Lots of line breeding to get that pearl mutation and the greed and idiocy of lazy breeders taking shortcuts spawning siblings or closely related fish pretty much doomed the strain. You almost never see large silks and the ones you do don't look that great.
Your silk looks nice and is very similar to what my boy Blue Balls looked like. Good luck with him.
