Hello all, I am hoping to locate some information to help me treat, if needed, an odd red spot that looks like a sore on my albino bichir. It is raised and I noticed that over its gill "plates" it has faint ones that I think have been there since I got it a couple months back. Sorry the pics are not the best, my bichir is not one to hold still when you want it to. I just did a almost full change of the water as I had put feeder fish in a month ago and had worried that it may have need something from them. I currently don't have water test strips but will be able to order some when I get paid in a few days. 16332015137017305214457530485636.jpg16332015480387616889937012685915.jpg

16332024861904522908160157583170.jpghere is a slightly better pic of the red spot on his side. In the other 2 pics you can see the ones over his gill "plates".

Could be the beginning of septicemia or injury. Increase ur water changes to 50% once a week. Check ur water parameters. Make sure tank is cycled and nitrates are below 20ppm.

I just ordered water test strips and will have them in a couple days. As I said I just changed the water today, 95% water change and rinsed the filter cartridge as well. When I get the test strips I will post the results. I hope he just whacked himself on something and will heal.

Well update on the odd spot. He wont sit still long enough for me to get a picture but it looks like its changing. Its still red but now it has a yellowish bit in the center. It literally looks like a zit. Could he have hit himself on a point and just gotten a small infection?

Hard to say. Could be infection from inside working it’s way out.
