A shortbody flowerhorn, sure. The normal ones would get too large IMO.
Any cichlid that stays 8" and under would be fine. Cryptoheros species like convict, sajica. Salvini. Not as a community, but you could do a single male or a pair of any of those, with some dithers.

large tetras, swordtails, large danios, whatever you like really. Anything too small (neon tetras etc) will be eaten, but large tetras like Colombian seem to do well with cichlids in this size range.
