I've got two empty 75s and another 40B setting up soon. Gotta build the stands 1st and will still need more tanks (maybe 2 more 75s) cuz they're guarding almost 1000 week old fry and haven't seen any decline in their numbers. I don't start my dempseys on pulverized flake. They start getting that at 1 week and ween them off 1st food by 2.5 to 3 weeks.
OPs state 2/3 losses in 1st week alone... MY ARSE!!!
They're not doing something right, and the 1st prob is evidently (but not explicitly... apathy, lazy, or innept, or some combination).
I like to keep a few empty spare tanks around. Unfortunately, lately my empty tank count is about 40 tanks from 100gal to a couple of stacks of my spare 450s (We're currently only using 2 of the 30 450s).
