iv presently got 2 senegals and a delhezi im raising, theyre both about 3.5" right now, and i was wondering what other tank mates i could put in with them. they will be in a 75 gallon as their final home, atleast for a good many years, i may be able to afford something much bigger later on... but lets assume it will be a 75 for life. i was wondering if i could put a black ghost knife in with them. im assuming they will both grow at about the same rate so i shouldnt worry about the bichirs outgrowing the bgk so fast they get big enough to eat it. i plan on getting a juvenile knife thats about 5". instead of asking will this work, ill ask this: does this sound like it has a high probability of working lol. if not what other oddballs would yall recommend. im open to lots of different ideas so dont be shy and speak up :)

That'll work. Both grow slow from what I've experience, but Senegals I guess grow at different rates. I've heard some people's grows fast while others grows slow. I don't have any experience with Delhezis, but I do want one of those.

great, ill keep that option open then. i love my delh and if ur thinking about getting one i highly recommend them. they have somewhat of a different personality than the senegals which adds a nice contrast to the tank, along with the fact that the coloration is different too. my advice; dont necessarily just buy the first one you find out of excitement unless you just absolutely have to cause that one fish really is that amazing. i had my lfs order me 2 so i could pick which one i thought was best, this also gives you the option of getting the prettiest one, not all have predominant patterns on them and its worth it - to me - to check several out. good luck

I'm hoping to get a delhezi eventually as well. Right now, I have an ornate and 2 senegals. The sens are divided from the ornate until they get a little bigger, but I have a buffalo knife (Sternopygus macrurus) with the ornate. The buffalo seems to have pretty similar behavior to a bgk. At first the ornate picked on the knife, but all wounds healed quickly and I've seen no problems in over a month

Should be fine. the bgk and poly's will probably leave each other alone.

S. macrurus are actually a lot more peaceful than bgk's IME.

really, so are bgk's aggressive at all? i mean i know you said they will probably get along and im not contesting that im just trying to find out more about the nature of bgk's.

BGK males are pretty aggressive with each other. It's generally best to keep BGKs one per tank unless the tank is very large, but I've heard of people keeping 2 or 3 in a tank

BGK's usually aren't aggressive to other fish just each other and grow slowly. Sens grow pretty quickly to 6 inches then slow down a little till 9 or so and then grow slowly to about 12. I'm not sure about dels. The only one I ever had was 2" and didn't grow even a half inch in months. BGK can get 18" in captivity and they don't need a lot of space to move around so the 75 should be fine for life.

ill keep them in mind. im might spring for a brown knife instead though the more i think about it, just cause they dont get as big and im not sure if im going to be able to put my bichirs in a 75 right away. do you think a delh would be ok in 55 gallon? iv been told they probably would be but id just like a couple of other opinions on that to make sure.
