IN A PLACE
Hi,
My wonderful and thoughtful wife decided to buy me a 9" odoe pike for christmas. It has been in my 375g since she brought it home. The problem is that he isn't eating; I have not seen him eat since he arrived. The previous owner fed him pellets and fd krill. I have tried massavore, floating carnisticks, fd krill, frozen bloodworm, market shrimp, and he won't eat any of it. Have also tried soaking the food with garlic guard and entice.
He is housed with a 12" Dat, 28" Niger cat, 12" flagtail, and 2 adult jack dempseys. None of the other fish bother him, but he is nervous at times. yet he greets us at the front of the tank and looks hungry. He will go after food, but rarely bites. When he has, he spits the food out.
Water conditions are good: 7.4 pH, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrate, 5-10ppm. Tank is on a drip system, temp is 80-82 degrees.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get him eating again? He doesn't look thin, but I don't want him dying of starvation.
Thanks!

try whole frozen silversides I got my red tailed payara's and yellowtail barracuda to eat them then pellets my juruense catfish I had would also only eat the silversides good luck

Unless you seen it eat pellets and krill at the other owners then it may not have been true and the odoe was eating live. But try smelt as mine eat smelt stuffed with massivore and freeze dried krill and earthworm.

My switched over to tilapia and shrimp from live rather quickly. Best of luck.

Thank you all!! I will get some frozen silversides and some smelt to try tonight. Will post the results tonight.

No luck. I think my next recourse is to put him in a isolation tank, however, I only have a 24" x 13" 16" tank to that. It seems a little small...

if he is very thin and frail you could always try a feeder. if he takes it give him a dead feeder the next time. Good luck.

I bought 5 juveniles, and 4 started to take krill the next day.
The fifth odoe didn't accept food for over one week.

He's finally eating.

You just have to outlast him.

The good news is that he isnt thin. I am strongly opposed to feeding live food. Would adding 2 more pikes of the same size help?

Just give him live food until he gets settled in the tank. It's a good size tank with larger friends so it might take time. Live foods arnt bad as long as you get them from a good sorce and you care for them and treat them befor using them as food. People give them a bad name when they buy them from a lps on the corner when half of them are floating in the tank dead and the water is cloudy and smells.
