This was the dominant male that had just started to hang out with my larger female. I was getting ready to play romantic music. In the wild, they start to pair up at 1 year ... I got them as fingerlings in early January...
As for the cause of death: I have no clue. No outside marks. I prophylactic ally treated them extensively for parasites when I first got them: they are known to carry worms. No tankmates were added. I only feed Hikari pellets. Never fed feeders.
It's a mystery.
Maybe got spooked and ran into the side of the tank. Who knows. But the nose looked fine.
