and about the 2ft thing, I was just at the LFS by my house and they have one in there close to 2ft. maybe 1 1/2 selling him for $249.00

wow, that's outrageous, I wouldn't pay that but I guess if someone really likes them,......

Anyways, personally, I wouldn't buy another odoe because I want other fish in the tank too. I had a 6-7" one and it ate my 4-5" ATF. I was pissed. The adoe only had one eye but that didn't stop it from being aggressive. It chased my silver aros (they'd get rips in their fins, then heal, then ripped again) around and bullied my barracuda. I wouldn't mix it with top or middle swimmers. It left bottom dwellers and poly's alone though.

An lfs, in Brea, SoCal had one at about 13" with like 2 large oscars about 10-11" and a big Ciclid about 10-11". The odoe was on one side of the tank and the other 3 were huddled on the other side of the tank and you can tell they were beat up. Torn fins, missing scales, bite marks that were fresh or healing,.......... just really beat up. That's my input, true monsters man, be careful

I'll make it a priorty to get over there and take a picture... and pray that they havent sold him already.. I was surprised to see it my self. Last week they were selling the one I bought, the juvies(7in) and thats all they had. But I went back in this week and there was that big one I was talking about....

:jaw: Man that is big!!! You should post a pic here for people to see...
I encourage you to ask a lot of Q's to that pet store about the Odoe. Did they raise him? How long have they had him? What do the feed him? etc....
Could be a lot of info from that owner. Thats pretty big

I thought they avg'd about 12"? I'd love to find one, but in my neck of the woods thats next to impossible.

Yeah, I bet it is hard to find them. Even where I am they are pretty common, but once they are out of season, Good Luck... and when they do get in, they are small and by then your tankmates might be big enough to eat him

i keep my odoe with dats and endli doesnt do nuffin just eat alot of feeders or tear them up and leave them to die

lalalalalalala u mean like this big

What size is he? Nice looking color and you can see the confidence on that Odoe:D
What else do you feed besides feeders? shrimp,smelt,pellets,ngt.crawlers...

Foe a sec. I thought your Gar was a Poly:screwy: Then I double back and noticed it was a Gar:D

2ft in the wild sure but I've never known one to get past 12" in a home aquarium. Mine is about 9" and my bro's is almost 12". mainly get fatter at this point.

def not a good idea to get odoes at separate times. some stores have a hard time keeping a group in 1 tank without fights.

they are jumpers too so you might need either a heavy lid or something on top of it and close off any openings even the hob filter. I lost 1 that found that section open enough to jump.

Which LFS? I have a 14" and 12" odoe. I realize that fishbase lists the max size as 28 inches, but I've never seen one larger than 16" or so.
