My lfs has a tarpon and a odoe in stock right now and i was thinking about getting one to replace my (dead) odoe. They also frequently get in other characins such as scombs boulengerella etc. I was thinking about the tarpon but i heard that they grow HUGE really fast... I have a 75 custom acrylic would that be fine for a growout the tarpon is 5 inches long. Or if you have any other ideas for fish im willing to listen. Thanks in advance

and tarpon need tons of room to swim around. I would start them in 180

Oh really? Is it a space issue though because i had no prblem growing a 9 inch brycon to 13 inches... The employee also said it needs alot of room to so maybe you're right although they seem to swim the same?!?

I've owned odoe and tarpon and IMO odoe are a much better aquarium fish. What size tank is it going to go in eventually?

My mom is going to buy a 6-8 foot long tank in a year or two but is not sure about the side dimensions yet. She wants it for saltwater but its too expensive so she said i can put my own fish in there as long as its not an ugly one so our visitors dont see it lol my mom is funny. You also said you had a tarpon, how was it? Some people say they're intelligent and interactive while others say they're skittish. Also i heard that they usually stay under two feet in fw due to lack of nutrients because in the ocean there is more nutrient rich food than in a river?!?!

I had 3 tarpon and I honestly didn't care for them. Maybe I just had a bad experience but they were problem eaters and were not very interactive. After a couple months I sold them.
