Odoe vs VATF

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks for the info guys, I think i'm going to go with 3 odoe and hopefully get myself some hard hitters! Do they like fast flowing water?

Nope. Every group I've kept will try to propel themselves into the fast moving water. Example- 3600 gph return pump on a 150 gallon tank. Where the water returned to the tank they just kept trying to jump into the water smashing themselves on stuff. Seem to think they can get out wherever the water comes in. This was an old ATF grow out tank. I just valved back the pump and they quit jumping.

All mine have preferred calmer conditions which I think goes back to their natural habitat of slow moving streams and lakes.

I've never experienced any kinds of aggression with these fish - BUT I've always kept groups of 4 or more.

Odoe come from very, very still waters... they will try anything to avoid current. They've evolved for ambush hunt, not for chase, and typically stay near the shore and in shallow flooded areas.

Thanks again guys. I'd rather go for a larger group, it's going to depend on how many are available as I've asked someone to source them for me. They'll be around 4" when I get them, are they difficult to pellet train?

No they are relatively easy to pellet train. All of mine took to pellets within a few days except one hold out that took a little longer. They also love cut tilapia, shrimp, worms etc.

Keep tank covered and aggression varies, had one that wouldn't tolerate any tankmates but others that lived peacefully with others.
