Off Topic **Native Fish**

I find it unusual that with the popularity of the various Cichla species that native trout and salmon species are not more popular. You used to be able to argue size was a limiting factor but that argument goes out the window when comapared to Cichla. The only real roadblock to keeping many of the trout sp. is that the water needs to be kept quite cool.

Check these out:

Californian Golden Trout, Oncorhynchus mykiss aguabonita (These are actually quite small and would be very manageable in an aquarium)

Salvelinus alpinus

Salvelinus fontinalis

Rainbow Trout, Oncorhynchus mykiss

this belongs in the north american native and cold water species.

The water temp. is one obstacle then there are the local laws protecting these fish.

very nice indeed..... but if people like to have them.... your stuck with those sp. of trout and other very cold temperate fish.... reason is they are very cold water fish... and then comes the chillers....
but IMO.. not to knock this thread or you scat... i would rather have SW fish if i had to have a chiller...
